From the moment he came into this world, he captured the hearts of anyone and everyone who came into contact with him. Now that he is gone, the very hearts he touched are aching with sorrow as his loss is beyond unbearable. Damien Blade Marquez, 27 years young, passed away 16 January at his sister’s home in Mesa, Arizona. Damien was born September of 1993 at Yokota Air Force Base in Tachikawa, Japan, to his loving and proud parents, Sammy D. Marquez and Susan H. Squeri. From the time he could hold a football, his dream was to be known as a famous football player. Although his superior athletic skills gained him some popularity, he was best known for the selfless offering of his heart, his dedication to others, and as the light for those lostin their own darkness. Damien’s life would seem too short to many, but those on the receiving end of Damien’s love and friendship understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Damien is preceded in death by his Grandpa John Bradley, Uncle Ronnie Marquez, Jr., and cousin Chelsea “Bubba” Morales. He is survived by his grandparents, Ronnie Marquez, Cliff, and Patsy Johnson, and Eileen Bradley. Uncles and aunts, Aurora Marquez, Karl and Julie Gallegos, and Patrick and Brandee Jelinek. Co-parents Peter Squeri and Joline Martinez. Sisters, Jasmyn and Niqui Marquez, Marlena Herrera, and only brother, Johnny Abeyta. Cousins, Estevan and Arianny Gallegos, Elli, Bradley, Rhett and Evie Jelinek, Myranda Mahoney, Delanie Morales, Julia, Michael and Felicita Marquez and their children. Damien’s extended family includes Tim and Jennifer Martinez, their children and grandchildren, Brian Amanda, Adam, Aaron, Tabitha, Deon, Michael, and Alexandria. Damien’s aspiration of happiness is a reminder of the preciousness of life. He sustained the simplest of joys in touchdowns by the Kansas City Chiefs and the Ohio State Buckeyes, the camaraderie of his gaming squad, the reading and preservation of literary classics and the appreciation of multiple genres of his vast collection of music. Sharing his happiness with his friends and family was as important to him as it was for all who loved him to experience his warm smile.
