Epefania Boldios Bautista

Epefania “Penny/Pening” Boldios Bautista was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She left this world on April 2, 2022 at the age of 91. She is survived by her sister Marina, her children Herman(Lupita), Alex(Brenda) and Betsy(Ty) along with her grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Aaron, Michael, Malia, Kainoa and Makena Lei.

She was born to Melecio and Guellerma Boldios on April 7, 1931 on the Island of  Leyte in the Philippines.  After finishing school, Pening attended  the Culinary School at Purvis Park.  Upon completion, she began work as a cook with the Paul Hardiman Construction Company.   She later worked for the Hardiman family in Yorba Linda, California.  While working in California, she met the love of her life Herminio Bautista.   Together, they raised their three children in Midway City, California.

Pening loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends.  Her lumpia, pancit and chicken adobo were well known to party goers at the Bautista household.   With her husband,  the two formed Betsy’s Cleaning Service,  a business that lasted several years.

She had a lifelong dedication to her  Catholic faith which included her tenure as  a Eucharistic Minister at Blessed Sacrament Church.   She was a member  of the local Filipino rosary group and made religious pilgrimages to Fatima, Portugal, Lourdes France,  and Medjugorje, Croatia.

Her battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma did not prevent her from giving back to her community, as she regularly volunteered to help developmentally disabled students in the Garden Grove School District.  Second only to her cooking, Pening loved to spend hours in her garden and often incorporated home-grown fruits and vegetables in her recipes.

A Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 3:00 p.m.to 7:30 p.m.  with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary at Heritage-Dilday Memorial Services in Huntington Beach.  A funeral mass celebrated by the  Reverend Monsignor Douglas J. Cook will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.  at Blessed Sacrament Church in Westminster, California.   Interment  will follow mass at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach.
