Joseph “Joe” Patrick Lilly, 79, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 3, 1946, Joe was the son of the late Joseph Edward Lilly and Marguerite Lilly. He was one of fifteen children and is survived by James Lilly, John Lilly, Jeff Lilly, Jerry Lilly, Robert (Bob) Lilly, Thomas (Tom) Lilly, Marguerite Sheehan, Kathleen Allen, Patricia Allen, Suzanne Levenda, and Beth Ann Hennis. He was preceded in death by his siblings Michael Lilly, Mary Ann Lilly, and Maureen Lilly.
Joe grew up in Detroit, where he spent over two decades before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1966. He proudly served his country for four years, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. After his military service, Joe pursued higher education, attending Wayne State University to study Psychology and Sociology before moving to Arizona, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Arizona State University in 1981.
Throughout his career, Joe worked with dedication and integrity for Maricopa County and United Blood Services, among other positions in the Phoenix area.
Joe will be remembered for his salty humor, and his ability to stand alone. His life reflected a deep sense of service—both to his country and to his community.
A service to honor Joe’s life will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, located at 2929 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, AZ. Time and date are to be determined.
