Margaret Liddy passed away Thursday morning February 4, 2021, from complications from the Covid 19 virus. She was 93 years old. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 22, 1927, to Carmella Messineo and Vincenzo Messineo. Vincenzo and Carmella had emigrated from Sicily to the U.S. Margaret was the older sister to siblings Benny, Marty, and Joey. They grew up in Brooklyn.
In 1947, Margaret married Warren Liddy. They spent a lot of their time on Air Force Bases, as Warren was a full timer in the Air Force. Over the years they had 6 children. They traveled to Florida, New York, Tennessee, England, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Puerto Rico, and back to Nebraska. They retired in Mesa AZ. They were married for 56 years until Warren passed away in 2004.
Margaret was a wonderful cook, and spent many years working in restaurants. She was passionate about cooking from scratch, and even though she was Italian, she had a special fondness for Asian food. Especially, buffets. And she definitely loved the food more if it was good, AND inexpensive.
She raised a few chickens so she could have fresh eggs, and she loved gardening. She was partial to unique foods like bitter melon, eggplant and heirloom tomatoes, and taught us kids to love beef tongue, calamari and sushi. She loved authentic Italian, Jewish, Mexican and Chinese food, and she could make a great home made spaghetti sauce, chicken soup, and an amazing Sicilian pizza.
She lived simply, and loved her family most of all. She leaves behind 6 children, Lorraine, Barbara and husband Steve, Richard, Patricia, Paul and Thomas and wife Emily. There were 11 grandchildren, and many greatgrandchildren. She also had 2 great, great grandchildren, twin boys. Her food legacy lives on with her family and she was dearly loved.
