Massie, John David

John David Massie passed away on February 8, 2017 after a prolonged illness.  He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on April 5, 1956 to the Reverend Arthur G. and Lucille Carter Massie.  The family moved from Xenia, Ohio to Mesa, Arizona in 1960.

He is survived by his adoring mother, Lucille Baxter of Mesa; his loving sisters, Nedra Solomon of Glendale, Dawn Lea Reece (Michael), and Scherrie Huelskamp, both of Mesa; childhood friend, Mark Viera of Mesa; and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his father and his brother, Greg.  His wife of 27 years, Elizabeth, passed away in February 2015.

John David was a chef and worked for several years at Valley restaurants, hotels and resorts, before becoming disabled.  In the early ‘80’s, he and Mark toured, nationally, with the rock band, Blood Rock, appearing with Steppenwolf, Whiplash, and others, creating lasting memories of youthful times.  John David was an avid movie fan, and would often amaze us with his ability to name the players of even the smallest roles from the oldest movies to present day ones.

There is an enormous void in our lives without John David, but we hold in our hearts the many poignant memories of this beloved son and brother.  May he rest forever, pain-free, and in peace.
