Sometimes known as “Dick” or “Al” and most affectionately “Dad”, Richard Allen Jones passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at his home in Mesa, AZ.
He left this world a lonelier place but left his magical spirit behind. He loved his family and his many friends deeply.
He proudly served his country and frequented all the VFW posts and American Legions he could find. His stories and history lessons will be most missed by his “kids”.
He had a personality that could win anyone over and if you didn’t laugh at least twice in a conversation with him, there was something wrong with you.
Al was born on September 1, 1945 to Frances VanOverberg and Richard Arthur Jones in Seattle, WA. He graduated in 1963 in Cambridge, IL. From there, he served in the Viet Nam war.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Quad Cities.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Angie (Dave) Balmer, Renee Johnson and Shane Jones. His grandchildren: B Balmer, Bailee, MacKenzie, and Walker Jones. Great-grandchildren: Rosalie, Sienna and one on the way. Brothers: Bob (Debra) Cowan, Dave Jones, Johnny (Julie) VanOverberg and sister: Jeannie Rudolph along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wives: Carolyn Jones and Sally Jones.
Al’s fruit trees will bear an abundance of fruit in his honor this fall due to the constant care he gave them. In previous years, much of that fruit was donated to the needy along with monetary donations. Please consider a donation, in his honor, to the organization of your choice.
