Sandoval, Mark Anthony
Obituary
Mark Anthony Sandoval was born in McNary Az. on April 3, 1958 to Rosie & Felix Sandoval. When he was born he had an older brother, Andrew Sandoval. Later he had a younger brother born, Jerry Sandoval. Some years later he had a sister come into the family, Michelle Sandoval.
Mark grew up in McNary and later Phoenix AZ and graduated high school from Carl Hayden High School. In his late 20’s he met Kitty Felkins and they became a family with him helping raise Kitty’s children. Steve, Sherrie, Shonna and Stacy. Although these children weren’t his own he raised them as they were. He always called them his kids and later their children his grandkids.
While growing up and in his adult years he was always involved with the Chavez Family Reunion, serving as president for 1 year. The reunion was an important part of his life and as sad as it is to lose him now he passed at the reunion surrounded by family and friends that love him dearly.
Mark worked in several fields during his life but the one that he did most was as a concrete worker. When talking to him he would always say whichever field it was, that he did it for “30 years”. We would joke with him that he must be 142 years old.
Mark was the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back. If anyone needed help he never hesitated to lend a hand. Many people that don’t know him closely might not know this but there were several people that could call him anytime and he would go help them immediately. He would do this expecting nothing in return.
About 4 years ago Mark joined the Knight of Columbus. He was a member of Bishop Granjon Council 4339. He served as Deputy Grand Knight for 1 year and part of that year took over for the Grand Knight in his absence. Mark devoted many hours volunteering in the many functions of the council. Helping with fish frys, breakfasts, tootsie roll drives, fiestas and any other functions the council had. He also volunteered and helped at many church functions. He once said his mom would have been happy and proud that he had joined the Knights of Columbus.
Mark is predeceased by his parents, Rosie & Felix Sandoval, his life partner Kitty Felkins, his daughter Shonna, his nephew Xavier and his niece Sinclaire. He is survived by his brothers Andrew and Jerry and sister Michelle, his son Steve and daughters Sherrie and Stacy, 9 nieces and nephews, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. While Mark’s life was shorter than we would have liked we believe he is now with all his family members that have gone before him. He will be missed dearly and always fondly remembered by many.
