Thomas Cockwell, 87 of Apache Junction passed away April 16, 2023 at home after a battle with cancer. He was born and raised in the Ottawa, Ontario area, to Marion and Ernest, and raised with his siblings Jerry, Richard and Barbara.
Thomas spent his early career with the Canadian armed forces before becoming a successful entrepreneur developing and running his own marina for many years. He moved to the Phoenix area in 1991 and was active in restoring homes and property development for many years. He eventually retired to the Mesa area, downsizing in 2021 to Apache Junction.
He is survived by his children Tom (Marlene), Jeff (Maureen), and Scott; his six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings Jerry and Barbara.
Thomas enjoyed piloting his own plane, woodworking, camping in the mid-West states or driving into the desert and mountains around Phoenix. He was a man with incredible work ethic and moral values, deep devotion and was well respected by those who knew him.
Outstanding hospice care was provided by Companion Hospice (Christina and April) from 2022, making his final days comfortable and for which we are deeply appreciative, as we are for his neighbours Tom and Julia who visited regularly.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
