Obituary

Dion Randal Bellon, age 53, departed this life on July 30, 2025 in Mesa, Arizona.

Dion was born September 11, 1971, in Cavalier, North Dakota, to Faith and Marvin Bellon and was the second of 2 children. He attended Richholt Elementary School, Simle Junior High School, and graduated from Bismarck High School in Bismarck, North Dakota. During high school he enjoyed playing hockey, basketball, and tennis. He frequently went camping and fishing during his teenage years and especially loved to go ice fishing. He attended college at Bismarck Junior College where he received an Associate’s Degree in General Studies. After college, Dion moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota when he was hired to work for America West Airlines in his early 20’s. He worked as a gate and ramp agent for the next several years. In 1999, Dion made the decision to transfer to Phoenix, Arizona. Over the last few years of his life, Dion received recognition for 30 years of service at American Airlines and retired in May of 2025.

Throughout his time in Arizona, he had several roommates, made numerous friends, and purchased his first home. Dion met Jenna in 2010 on the ramp of Sky Harbor Airport. They later married in 2013 and had two children shortly after. Dion loved being a father, playing hide-and-go seek, card games, teaching the kids to dance, and any minute he could ride a bike or run with them. They resided in Mesa for the next several years and purchased their dream home in 2020. He loved his family dearly and spent his last few months spending time with his kids and attending their musical and sporting events.

Dion was an avid runner and cyclist, completing a variety of events from 5k’s to a full Ironman and in between. In November of 2016, Dion accomplished a personal goal of completing an Ironman, where he was greeted by his family and friends at the finish line. Dion loved sports and being active to try to stay physically fit. Riding his bike to and from work on a daily basis made him feel like he was flying, and he had the wings to help. He would often be found watching any major sports event including major tennis tournaments, Formula 1 racing, World Series, Tour de France, or any event in the Olympics.

As an airline employee and living close to an airport he loved being in and around airplanes every day. Brake riding in the cockpit was his zen room. He loved watching planes fly over the home and could identify every plane overhead. His passion was invested in his many bicycles and any car, truck, or motorcycle he could research. He was also an expert on the daily politics and financial status of the country. He was loved by and will be missed by many.

Dion is survived by his wife Jenna, 2 children Blake and Carmella Bellon, stepdaughter Kiley Smith, and sister Darilyn (Kent) Blaeser. He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Faith Bellon.

  1. To Dion’s family: I’m so sorry for your loss and the grief that you are going through. I knew Dion from the America West days. I remember him being so shocked that I didn’t know who Lance Armstrong was or anything about the Tour de France. He sure loved his bike! I hope your memories of Dion bring back times of happiness and laughter. He will be missed by all who knew him.
