Obituary

Richard Albert Durkee, age 85, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of South Glens Falls, New York, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, following a courageous journey with Parkinson’s disease.

Richard was born on September 19, 1940, in Kingsbury, New York, to Albert Durkee and Edith DeLong. He was a hardworking and dependable man who spent his career as a machine operator, earning the respect of his coworkers through his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic.

On December 15, 1960, Richard married the love of his life, Lena. Together they shared more than 65 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, commitment, and family.

In his younger years, Richard had a passion for racing cars. He enjoyed the excitement of the track, the competition, and the friendships he made through racing. Throughout his life, he remained a devoted New York Yankees fan, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. Whether watching a Yankees game or spending time with his family, those simple moments brought him great joy.

Above all else, Richard loved his family. He took great pride in watching his family grow through the generations. His quiet strength, steadfast character, and unwavering love for those closest to him will be remembered always.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Lena Durkee; his daughters, Lynne Durkee-Coutant and Miranda Farrell and her husband, Sean; his cherished grandchildren, Riley and Logan Farrell; and his brothers, Edward Durkee and Donald Durkee. He is also survived by extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Durkee and Edith DeLong, and his sisters, Patty Durkee and Marie (Durkee) Montero.

In accordance with Richard’s wishes, no public memorial service will be held. His family will gather privately to celebrate his life and honor the many memories they shared together.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Richard and his loved ones during his final days.

Richard will be remembered for his quiet determination, his love for his family, his lifelong loyalty to the New York Yankees, and the strength and dignity with which he faced life’s challenges. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
