In Loving Memory

Alonzo “Al” Rosenaldo Florez, age 76, a resident of Mesa, AZ., passed away at Banner Baywood Hospital on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Alonzo’s life was marked by service, adventure and a deep appreciation for family and friends. Born to Alonso and Loretta Florez, Alonzo grew up with a love for exploration and an adventurous spirit that stayed with him throughout his life. He served his country with honor and dedication in the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry Division, where he earned several distinguished medals, including the Expert (Rifle M-14) qualification, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, and the National Defense Medal.

Alonzo’s heart was full of love for his family, and he is survived by his son, Alonzo Florez Jr., and his wife Dawn. He adored his grandchildren, Amanda Florez and Adam Florez and his sisters, Antonia and Maria. Though he faced heartbreak with the loss of his son, Anthony Florez, and his wife, Isadora Florez, Alonzo’s spirit remained resilient. He found comfort in the company of his extended family and shared a special bond with his mother-in-law, Georgia Serrano. He was also preceded in in death by his father-in-law, Abran Serrano.

He loved fishing, played baseball into his 60’s, and cherished spending time with friends, both old and new. His adventurous spirit led him to explore different cultures and cuisines as he traveled the world with his family. He loved Motown music, hole-in-the wall restaurants, and dishes from all around the globe. Alonzo enjoyed gaming at local casinos and sharing after-school lunches with his adoring grandkids. He always made sure that those he loved experienced the wonders of the world alongside him.

Alonzo, Al, “Rosey”, Dad, Grandpa, will be dearly missed bay all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.

    I still can’t believe that Alonzo has passed away and I often expect to see him visiting here again. My deepest sympathies to Lon and Dawn and Amanda and Adam. May you find comfort in knowing that Alonzo is at rest and is with his loving wife. Lollie and son, Anthony.
