Obituary

Betty Jane Savo of Mesa, AZ, passed away on January 28, 2022 at the age of 92. She was born in Hemlock, MI on September 18, 1929 to Emma and Herman Walter. She is survived by son Stephen (Midland, MI), daughters Patricia (Jack) Hassen (Glenview, IL), and Gayle (Mesa, AZ), 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by six sisters: Marion, Edna, Helen, Alma, Dorothy, June; and three brothers: Don, Dale, and Harold. Betty retired from Mesa Lutheran Hospital where she worked as a nurse’s aide and unit secretary. Betty loved spending time quilting, baking, and reading. She loved a good can’t-put-it-down, page-tuner mystery. She was always up for playing board games like Scrabble or solving a crossword puzzle. An avid traveler, she visited places from Alaska to Aruba, and Hawaii to Maine. She also loved spending time gardening and hiking. She had a goal to hike the Grand Canyon and did just that at age 65. She was a fan of the Arizona Cardinals and loved watching the games on TV while enjoying pizza and a Miller Lite. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
