Obituary

Beverly A. Coombs rejoined the Lord November 18, 2024 at age 92. Bev was born August 31, 1932 in Great Falls, Montana to Nick and Luella Edinger (maiden name Wangen). She married Donald E. Coombs October 17, 1952. Bev and Don were happily married for 67 years until Don passed away in June of 2020. Bev was preceded in death by her husband Don, brother Donnie, and son David and is survived by her son Dan, daughters-in-law Julee and Ellen, and grandchildren Doug, Joe, Laura and Ben and Ben’s spouse Lauren.

Bev was a two time breast cancer survivor. She always championed causes to fight breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made to support the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research (313899) at the OSU James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Gifts may be made using the following Personalized link:In memory of Beverly Coombs  or by mail to The OSU Foundation, PO Box 736096, Chicago, IL 60673-6096.

A Wise Choice Desert View Chapel in Mesa Arizona is coordinating final arrangements for her celebration of life to occur in Columbus Ohio later this year.

Bev and Don moved to Mesa, Arizona 29 years ago. Bill and Eileen Tesch and Bruce and Sandy Culver became their second families while in Arizona. Bill and Eileen played bridge and attended the theater with them. The Culver’s and the Tesch’s always welcomed them for holiday celebrations and special occasions. Bruce and Sandy were special angels to her and Kelsey, Kyle and Catherine Culver became a second set of grandchildren to Bev and Don.

Bev was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She especially adored her grandchildren and they adored her. Thankfully, all four grandchildren Doug, Joe, Laure and Ben saw her and spoke with her at the very last. The family was all blessed to spend time together with her.

Bev and Don were world travelers. They lived together in 14 homes in the states of Montana, Washington, Ohio and Arizona. They traveled to all 50 states and to Australia, Bermuda, Jamaica, Spain, France, Mexico, Monaco, Canada, Panama and Puerto Rico. They loved camping in their homemade trailer and later in a motorhome. They had friends and family around the world.

Bev worked as a secretary and found new jobs with each relocation. She started investing in the stock market in the 1960’s and was an early investor in companies like Microsoft, Intel, Cisco Systems, and Apple. She was an early adopter of the personal computer and served as secretary for computer clubs and later for the Red Mountain Ranch Social Club for over 15 years. She loved telling everyone daily about her grandchildren, her travels and her stock investments.

Bev loved the Lord. She most recently attended Red Mountain Community Church where she and Don loved the fellowship and Bible based sermons. They lived many happy years in Arizona, first in the Red Mountain Ranch neighborhood and then at Discovery Point Retirement Community.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Ohio at a later date with friends and family in attendance. Bev would want everyone to be at peace with her passing. She knew the lord and was ready for her next journey to meet him in heaven.

  1. From the Ortega Ortuño family Although I did not have the honor of knowing her personally, I know that she was a great woman because she had an exceptional son. Her legacy lives on in him, and her example as a mother is reflected in the admirable person he is today.
My condolences to her family in this difficult time.
