Obituary
Clifton (Chubby) Dillard Sergeon was born in Summit, New Jersey, to the late Gloria Nadine and Wilfred Dillard Sergeon. He graduated from Summit High School, where he played football. In 1962 he married his beloved wife, Mary. Together, they raised three children Wanda, Elaine and Clifford and shared a life full of adventure. He loved drag racing, deep-sea fishing, model trains, aquariums, and memorable camping trips.
Clifton worked with his father at Allied Moving Company and later trained as an electrician. He joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 581 now Local 102. Despite being diagnosed with an asbestos-related illness in 1989, he continued working until 1991, when he was declared totally disabled. Since his health was deteriorating, he moved to Arizona and his life was extended.
After studying the Bible, Clifton dedicated his life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses June 8, 1987. He served faithfully for the rest of his life. He held various roles as a Ministerial Servant and Elder. Most recently he was able to be a Continuous Auxiliary Pioneer from March 2023 until May 2025. Even as his health declined, he remained devoted to his ministry participating through Zoom. Clifton’s transformation from skepticism to deep spiritual conviction was striking. Once resistant to his family’s faith, he became a man known for humility, kindness, and love for Jehovah and people.
His final family vacation in 2019 included Disney World, the Young’s family reunion in Boydton, VA, and the International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, “Love Never Fails”! in Phoenix, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sergeon; children Wanda Sergeon, Elaine (Floyd) Robbins, and Clifford (Alana) Sergeon; grandchildren Myla (Jeremy) Tierney, Adorah Robbins, Isaiah Krakoff, Nadine Sergeon, and Naomi Sergeon; and sister Eileen (Alfred) Jackson. He was preceded in death by his sister Joyce Sergeon. Clifton is also remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends in the worldwide brotherhood of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
We look forward to the day in which our great God Jehovah will resurrect Clifton Sergeon and bring him back to life right here on this earth in paradise, the place where he originally intended mankind to live. Until then, he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him for his warmth, humor, and enduring faith.
Services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 6263 E Brown Road, Mesa, AZ 85205, Saturday June 21, 2025, at 5:30pm (8:30 EDT).
