David Merle Smith

April 27, 1950 to May 22, 2023

David M Smith “Smitty” age 73, left this world on May 22, 2023 at his residence in Mesa, Arizona.  He was born in Ojai California on April 27, 1950. He resided there until he completed high school and went to work for the Shell Oil Company as a rigger. This took him to Alaska to work on the pipeline. He married and moved to Oregon. He loved to fish for steelheads and his favorite place was in the Columbia River in Oregon. He decided to relocate and moved to Arizona where he stayed.

While in Arizona he owned his own tile company and an assisted living group home in the West Valley. He took several trips back to Oregon to fish the Columbia and he hoped to go back there permanently. He remarried, Cyndi, and had a son. He moved to Chandler and worked for a local hospital as an engineer.  He stayed in Chandler until July of 2021 when his home suffered a devastating fire and was burned to the ground. While it is being rebuilt, he and his wife are living in Mesa. Due to the physical demands from his past careers, his health began to decline.  He passed away quietly at while sleeping.

David is survived by his wife Cyndi, son Brett (Mesa), stepson Eric (Montreal), granddaughter Emilia (Mesa), grandson Ronin (Mesa), and sister Sandy (Oklahoma). All of his family and friends will miss him. His family will have a private service at a later date to be determined.
