Obituary

Frederick “Rick” William Sundermeyer Jr., age 73, of Mesa AZ. Passed away Monday February 10th, 2025.

He was born on July 9, 1951 in Jefferson City, MO. to Frederick William and Elva Elizabeth (Wray) Sundermeyer. He was united in marriage to Shelley Belden on January 16th, 1985 in Mesa, AZ. Shelley survives in the home they built together with wonderful memories.

Rick was a 1969 graduate of New Bloomfield High School in New Bloomfield, MO.
In his youth Rick enjoyed playing the guitar, singing with a small band, playing basketball and riding motorcycles.

Rick had many early jobs such as being a landscaper, gas attendant, roofer, police officer for the city of Jefferson City, MO. a car salesman and hotel management. But his real love was being behind the bar. Rick retired as a bartender after 42 years.

Rick loved being behind the bar, talking with friends, patrons and teasing Cubs fans. He enjoyed watching sports, especially football and NASCAR. Time spent going to a Diamondback or Rattlers game with loved ones was a real joy for him and all those that went with him.

Survivors include: the love of his life, his wife Shelley; four daughters, Buffy (Jeff) Bax, Stacy (Brian) Kadow, Nichole (Eric) Stewart all of Jefferson City, MO. and Alexandra Illias of Miami, Florida. Five siblings, Louise Lowry, Karen Meyer, Shirley Ruppel, Doris Harris, Kenneth Sundermeyer (Sharon); and his grandchildren; Paige (Dustin) Czeschin, Austin (Breanna) Kadow, Brede Stewart, Abi (Jordan) Elliot, Ireland Bax, Isabella Stewart, Chloe Kadow and Landon Kadow; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Remington, Elijah, Maci, Austin Jr., Chase, Adaline, Kylie and Allena.

Rick was proceeded in death by his parents; brother Richard Sundermeyer and an infant brother.

Per his personal request, there will not be any services but would like to be remembered every time the song “Sound of Silence” is played.
