Obituary

Garry Mac Fyffe passed away at Banner Gateway hospital on December 25th after a few months of failing health. He celebrated his 80th birthday in August and enjoyed seeing many of his dear friends at his birthday party. He was born August 21, 1941 at his family home in Central. Az. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Roberts0n Fyffe, his five children: Shawn (Nikki), San Tan Valley, Tiffani (Todd) Crandell, Mesa, Brett (Evi), Mesa, Taryn (Will) Yule, Scottsdale, and Tai (Jon) Larsen, Gilbert, his sister Marjorie Fyffe Allen, Mesa. Also surviving him are 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Garry went through school in the Gila Valley in Central and Thatcher and has remained close to so many wonderful friends throughout his life. Garry served 4 years in the Air Force and learned to fly after he separated from the military, he was a flight instructor. He was accepted to fly for Pan-Am Airlines and went home to visit his mother while waiting to go to training and broke his neck water-skiing. That ended his flying career with them- before it began. He met Bonnie in 1966 and they were married June 10th, 1967 and lived in Hawaii for 9 months and he taught flying at the air force base at Hickham-Wheeler AFB. His plane went down when he lived in Wahiawa, HI and after returning to Mesa, he got his helicopter license but because of the brain damage from the wreck, wasn’t able to fly after that. Garry worked as a framer in construction and November 18th, 1985 fell and broke his neck for a second time- this left him a quadriplegic. He made a miraculous recovery though and for the next 36 years lived a happy life. It was not the way he would have planned it- but he drove to Canada twice, he was able to walk again and enjoyed his family so much, he was a great husband, father, grampa and brother, and loved life and all of his dear lifelong, and newer friends. We have been so blessed to live close to Marjorie, his older sister and she has always been a huge part of Garry’s life, and he in hers.

Garry’s viewing will be held, Thursday, December 30th at 9 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 618 S. Signal Butte Road (between Broadway & Southern) on the west side of the street. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. at the same location. Interment is at Mountain View Cemetery @ 7900 E. Apache Trail immediately following. We would love to have you help us celebrate his life.
