Obituary

Loving husband and father John C. Bailey, age 59, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 19, 1962, to Marlyce and Donald Bailey and grew up in Fridley, Minnesota, with his three brothers and parents.
John graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1985, majoring in accounting and German. His studies included six months of study in Germany with a beautiful family that John remained in contact with throughout his life. After dating five years, John married Susan J. Bailey in June of 1985. John and Susan lived in many places during their more than 35 years of marriage and raised two sons (Nicholas Allen and Paul Anthony) and a daughter (Roxanne Rose).
John had a wonderful career in accounting and eventually in IT as a business analyst. Cargill, Inc. in Minnesota was his first employer and afforded him travel to many parts of the world – England, France, Malaysia, Brazil, Amsterdam, Singapore, and Australia, to name a few. He took on a consulting job in Kansas, working for multiple clients throughout the country, then settled into working from Arizona, putting his JD Edwards business analyst skills to great use working for home builder companies initially, and finally as a consultant with a Texas-based company.
John loved music. He played trombone 4th grade to his first year in college, piano from a young age through his final year in college and while in college, learned to play the organ. He loved organ music, and his daily music play list was varied and included everything from hard rock through classical.
John was preceded in death by his parents Don and Marlyce, his brother Ben, and several aunts and uncles. John is survived by his wife Sue; his sons Nic (Ashleigh) and Paul and daughter Roxanne, all of Mesa; brothers Scott and Dave (Michelle); Aunt Marcia Scott of Portland; step-grandchildren Emily and Cooper (Nic and Ashleigh) and multiple, beloved in-laws, nephews, nieces, and much loved friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Shirdi Sai Baba Global Services, 12308 Braddock Drive, Culver City, CA (not a non-profit) would be greatly appreciated. This is the spiritual group with whom John felt so blessed to participate, and where he was so proud to lead the Healers Group – his favorite part of the works we do.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4th, 1-2 PM, immediately followed by a memorial service at A Wise Choice Cremation and Funeral Services, 9702 E Apache Trail, Mesa, AZ 85207. A link will be provided for remote participation.
John was so loved and will be missed by all whose lives he touched – family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances. He will forever be in our hearts.Link for Livestream of services:

  1. Sue and family,

What a nice and truer picture of John you have placed in his obituary. The picture on Facebook was not the John I knew in the past. I am very sorry he suffered and like all of us, I wish we could rewind and make this outcome different. It is indeed a sad, sad situation…especially when we see now all the people who loved John and were by his side.

I hope that those people will continue to support you and yours. You are loved as much as he was loved. Bless you all!

    Cousin Emily

    To Susan & Family
You won’t know me at all. I am from the UK and haven’t see John for a long time. I was however lucky enough to work very closely in a small team with John & our friend Lexie in Minneapolis during the 90’s. I have nothing but lovely memories of John.
My main recollection is that we laughed a lot together. I was an Ex-pat from the UK and John made me feel very welcome from day one. I loved his sense of humour and his cheery disposition.
We had some great road trips together on business trips. I don’t remember anything about the work but I do remember our social time together ,always joking and laughing.
When you travel around the world working as much as I have you meet many new people all the time. John was someone you meet and you never forget. I am so sad to hear that he is no longer with you.
He will be very badly missed but he will always be remembered because he was a special guy.
My thoughts are with you and the family
    Love Paul (Johnson)

    Dear Sue and Family,
As a cousin some 14 years older than John, I wish I’d gotten to know him more than I did as an adult. But my memories of him — as a kid and then a young adult with kids of his own whom I’d see every year or so at family gatherings — are of a person so jovial, devoted, gentle, helpful, intelligent and sweet !
In recent years we’d tried to rebuild connections through emails and your rare visits to Mpls. I’m so grateful ! I was blown away by the kindness, Sue, when you and John came back to Mpls for my father’s (John’s uncle’s) service in 2018. John did so much to help — offering short Bible readings and then a few words of prayer as we stood outside at the Veterans’ Cemetery in sub-zero temps. I will always remember him in that loving, confident, generous way. And I know he loved you all very much!
Please know you have much love from all of us here in MN !
With gratitude for the many wonderful friends in AZ who will be there to support you as you move forward, and wishing you peace and comfort,
    Much love,
    Cousin Jan

    Sue and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I was crushed by the news of John’s passing. I had just seen him at the center a few weeks ago. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

    May his memory be eternal.

    With much love,
    Kathy (Arianna’s mama)

    Dearest Sue and Family,
As a co-member of a select club of guys who were lucky enough to marry a Myers girl, I am deeply saddened to lose a good friend and a brother. I have so many great memories over the years. He was the first one who took me under his wing at my first Myers Family Monthly B’day Parties in Fridley. I loved his sense of humour and still treasure the visit here in Switzerland and the goofiness of late night Jamesons. He was aways incredibly fun to talk to and had a fantastic outlook on life. Margo and I still chuckle about his singing of Abba songs (his background vocals on Take a Chance on Me is classic). I will miss him greatly and I am so sorry for your loss.

    Love you guys,
    The other John

p.s. I had to choose the dolphin candle as I can imagine the jokes he would make about it.
