Obituary

Kenneth Alan Holmes, 88, of Mesa, AZ passed away at home after a short illness on December 21, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Clarence and Dora Holmes in Belvidere, Illinois on October 4th, 1934 and lived in Capron, IL most of his life. He was married to Sally Holmes(née Carlson). Together, they raised their five children-Greg(Lisa) of Poplar Grove, IL, Rob(Karen) of Capron, IL, Randy(Candye) of Bells, TX, Leslee Kelly(Kenneth) of Jackson, TN, and Kim Shattuck (Dean) of Belvidere, IL. The family resided in Capron, IL where he worked in insurance and contracting of metal building construction.

Ken received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in 1956 from Iowa State University. He also proudly served both as 1st Lieutenant, of the 17th Artillery Division in the US Army, stationed in Germany from 1956-1960 and in the National Guard until 1963. He was an active member of his local Lion’s Club chapter in Illinois, he loved fishing and spending time at the family’s cabin in Canada, golfing, woodworking, and creating beautiful stained glass art among other numerous hobbies.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Sally,  their five children and spouses, his sister, Phyllis Benson and several grandchildren, and  great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held this summer in Illinois and details will be forthcoming closer to the date.

    Larry and I were so sadden to here of the passing of Kenneth. We remember meeting and talking together when he came down to visit Phyllis on SGI. Our prays to all his family.

  2. What a beautiful human being Ken was. Sally and Ken were the perfect couple. I loved chatting with them both. I hope you are all fortified by your beautiful memories of this wonderful man!
