Obituary

Markay Marie Engelhardt, 58, passed away on October 20, 2023, in Mesa, AZ. She was born on October 19, 1964, in Escondido, CA.

Markay, known for her spunky personality and sense of humor, led a fulfilling life. She had multiple different jobs throughout her career and dedicated many years to the family business. She attended Mountain View High School, where she laid the foundation for her future endeavors.

Outside of work, Markay had a zest for life. She loved junk food, particularly Lucky Charms and Sees chocolate. She also loved a good game of Yatzee. Later in her life she became a crossword enthusiast. She loved the color purple. She enjoyed going to casinos and trying her luck. When she could no longer venture out she enjoyed video poker games from the comfort of home. But above all, Markay cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She found joy in their company and treasured the moments they shared.
Markay fought a very long, hard road with the devastating disease multiple sclerosis. Through everything she endured, fighting this disease, she never lost her sense of humor. She loved to call her friends and family on the phone and just stayed in touch with everyone. She was always talking about some crazy adventure or drama happening around her, you could feel her smile through the phone.

Markay is survived by her three loving children, Kelly [Gabriel] Sezate, Robert Engelhardt, Zach Engelhardt, and her dear grandchildren(8), Tyler Engelhardt, Fred Engelhardt, Kyrstin Sezate, Seth Engelhardt, Daisy Engelhardt, Athen Sezate, Katherine Sezate, and Kylie Sezate. As well as her parents, Robert J. Bates and Dianne Baukol. Her sister Tamera Bates. She was preceded in death by her significant other, Lynn Nielson.

A memorial service will be held in Markay’s honor at A Wise Choice Chapel, located at 9702 E Apache Trail, Mesa, AZ 85207, on November 10th, 2023 at 1pm.
