Obituary

On Thursday, November 19, 2020, Richard Duane Reiter Sr., devoted husband and father of two children, lost his 3 year battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 87, at his home in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by family.
Richard was born on August 22, 1933, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Benedict and Mary Lauretta (Murphy, Aurit) Reiter. He and his wife Angie, enjoyed 66 loving years of marriage. They were gifted by God with two children, Karla and Richard Jr. Prouder parents you will never see.
Richard drove 18 wheelers for 40 years, with 28 of those years working for American Freight Trucking Company and retired with an impeccable driving record and many Teamster Local 749 friends. Even now in retirement, his co-workers would get together for breakfast monthly and he would join them whenever he went back home. He had a special admiration for them.
He also had a passion for car racing! He raced stock cars for nine years at Husets Speedway and to this day, enjoyed watching Nascar with his daughter, Karla. In the early days of his life, he also loved boating and water skiing with his family & friends. He and his son, Richard Jr. and best friend Chris, spent many fun times hunting pheasants in the fall and fishing for walleye on the Missouri River.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings; Bernard, Lauretta, Edward, Lucille, Donna, James, Kenneth, Leonard, Mary and Margaret.
He is survived by his wife Angie, their children, Karla, Richard Jr. and wonderful daughter-in-law Laurie. As well as, many wonderful nieces and nephews, many of which we had the pleasure of their visits to our home in Mesa, AZ.
Rich was known for his kind and compassionate spirit, along with his loving good nature, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no Celebration of Life in his honor. When safe traveling prevails, burial will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery on Cliff Avenue.
