Steve Kostek
Obituary
On the morning of March 19, 2019, Steve Kostek of Mesa, Arizona, peacefully went to be with his Lord at the age of 102.
Steve was born on May 22, 1916 to Andrew and Anna Kostek on the Morton farm in Mentor Township in Divide County, North Dakota. He grew up as the youngest of nine children, attended Long Creek School #2, and worked the family farm until 1940 when he married Eunice Stenerson of Crosby. Their adventurous spirit led them to Glendale, California, where Steve attended Curtis-Wright Technical School. Starting out in sheet metal fabrication and soon advancing to tool and die work, his machine shop skills led him to a 40+ career working for companies such as Lockheed, Rohr Aircraft, and Union Carbide. In 1954, Steve and Eunice moved to Riverside, CA, where Steve continued in the machinist trade, even finding time to own a small motel. Steve retired from Union Carbide and he and Eunice decided to move to Mesa, Arizona, where Eunice, his wife of 73 years, passed away in 2013. Steve spent his last seven years at Fellowship Square in Mesa, AZ, where he lived independently until his recent passing.
Steve loved music and enjoyed playing the organ for most of his life. As a child he loved playing baseball and, upon moving to Los Angeles, CA, became a lifelong Dodger fan. He had many friends at Fellowship Square and enjoyed staying busy with crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and playing pool with his buddies. Steve will be remembered as a person who was kind hearted, happy, and always had a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Andrew; his mother, Anna; his wife, Eunice; infant son, Monty; and eight brothers and sisters, Ann, John, Michael, Joseph, George, Susie, Andy, and Ethel. He is survived by his son, David (Sara); two grandchildren, Brian (Laura) and Jackie; one great-grandchild, William; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Steve’s Life was held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Fellowship Square, 6945 East Main Street, Mesa, Arizona 85207, followed by interment at Mountain View Cemetery, 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, Arizona 85207.
