Obituary

Cherrie Lee (Higbee) Kimbrough, age 78, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at her home in Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jessie E. Kimbrough; as well as her four children, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 soon to be great-grandchildren: in addition to her three brothers, Claude II (Smokey), John, and Harley Higbee. Cherrie was born on Monday, May 3, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the oldest child of Ruth Packwood (Greatorex) and Claude Lionel Higbee. Cherrie’s father was enlisted in the Army-AirCorp branch of the American Armed Forces, so Cherrie lived in Colorado, Kentucky, Germany, Michigan, and Alaska. It was in Alaska where she met and married Jessie Kimbrough, on August 28, 1963. Cherrie and Jess were sealed for all time and eternity in the Oakland, California LDS temple just before the birth of their first child, daughter Cherrie Tahamane Floyd (married to Clay). Cherrie and Jess later welcomed two more daughters, Elizabeth Ruth Bird (married to F. Mark) and Edith Rachele Kimbrough (engaged to Gary Clack), and son, Jason Maxwell Kimbrough (married to Theresa (Daniel)). Cherrie and Jess have lived in Alaska, California, Colorado, and Alabama before moving to Arizona in 1981. Cherrie was a dedicated and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for whom she held many callings and completed many hours of genealogical research from which she has brought multiple generations together through sacred temple ordinances. Cherrie’s many other accomplishments include learning to play the piano, sewing, graduating Summa Cum Laude from ASU. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 at the LDS Church building located at 618 Signal Butte Rd in Mesa, Arizona. Viewing will be from 10 to 11am in the Relief Society Room with Funeral Services at 11am in the chapel. Burial will be on May 18, 2021 at 12:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, Arizona. Grave to be rededicated by family priesthood holders.

    Dear family, been a while my husband Leo was still alive we came to stay. Our phone calls were very nice. Almost picked up the phone to call this week. Heaven is great ( so I hear ). My Condolences. Keep the faith. Love, cousin Alice back in Kearns, UT.
