Obituary

James Howard Snyder, 88, of Ajo, Arizona passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Emerald Groves Assisted Living in Mesa, AZ.

James was born on August 20, 1930 in Grass Creek, Wyoming to Oscar and Dorothy (Cox) Snyder. Jim, as he was well known, worked for Marathon Oil as a Petroleum Engineer in Nebraska and Wyoming prior to his retirement in 1986. After retirement, Jim and his first wife, Janice, sold their house, purchased an RV, and traveled for several years visiting relatives, friends, and family. They then moved to Ajo, AZ in 1989.

After his first wife passed in 2003, Jim married Margaret Anderson, a family friend, in 2007. Jim enjoyed the outdoors. He loved long jeep rides in the desert and teaching his grandkids how to drive. He was always there for anyone who needed a ride to town for shopping or doctors’ appointments. He loved photography and had quite a collection of cameras.

Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret Anderson of Ajo, AZ; his daughters, Bonnie Simpson of Beaumont, California and Mary Hershner of Mesa, AZ; his grandchildren, Melissa Williamson of Beaumont, CA, Matt Kraft of Dallas, Texas, Kristina Bentancourt of San Bernardino, CA; and his five great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice (Wintermote) Snyder; his son, James E. Snyder; and his granddaughter, Becky Simpson.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Jim on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2:00pm, held at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 400 West Palo Verde Avenue North, Ajo, Arizona 85321.
