Obituary

Jessie Elmer Kimbrough, age 77, beloved husband and father, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the Banner Goldfield Medical Center in Apache Junction, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Cherrie Lee (Higbee) Kimbrough, age 78, who returned to her Father in Heaven on May 3, 2021. Jess is survived by his four children, 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren and 4 soon to be great-grandchildren. Jess was born on August 3, 1943 in Paint Rock, Alabama, the third son for RT and Evie Lee (Mays) Kimbrough. Jess grew up in Alabama until joining the United States Army at age 16 following the death of his parents. It was through his time in the Army that Jess met and married his sweetheart, Cherrie, in Anchorage, Alaska on August 28, 1963. Cherrie and Jess were sealed for all time and eternity in the Oakland, California LDS temple just before the birth of their first child, daughter Cherrie Tahamane Floyd [ (married to Clay). Cherrie and Jess later welcomed two more daughters, Elizabeth Ruth Bird (married to F. Mark) and Edith Rachele Kimbrough (engaged to Gary Clack), and son, Jason Maxwell Kimbrough (married to Theresa (Daniel)). Cherrie and Jess have lived in Alaska, California, Colorado, and Alabama before moving to Arizona in 1981. Jess retired from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 after 20 years of dedicated service. Once retired, Jess’s life was one spent on behalf of others. Jess spent countless hours giving of his time, his talents, and his money to make things more comfortable for someone else. Jess will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The memorial for Jess will be held on June 17th and the burial will be on June 21st at 10am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, Arizona. Grave to be rededicated by family priesthood holders.

    Dearest children and family. I did not believe that Jess could not last a long time without Cherrie. I shall miss our phone visits; but have some awesome memories. May your hearts heal at this temporary loss.
