Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, John Edwin Stewart of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully on 01/11/2021.

John, the son of Lillian and Charles Stewart, was born in April, 1941 and grew up in Clinton, Pennsylvania – attended SouthSide High School.

John married Cynthia (Cindy) SanFelice in March, 1976. John was a dedicated law enforcement professional most of his life. His crowning achievement was that of Chief of Police in Hanover Township, PA while raising their family. His final career chapter was providing security services at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, AZ.

John and Cindy enjoyed their later years life in Mesa, AZ – having spent over 25 years there with family and lots of friends whom they also considered extended family. They dedicated their life on improving and sharing in the joys of their 3 grandchildren – who were always the apples of their eyes.

Cindy loved to cook and John LOVED to eat! They would host many fun family gatherings over the years. They also loved to travel – frequently visiting their daughter Loretta, son-in-law Dave and grandson, Tanner in Seattle, WA.

John had a wicked good sense of humor, had a brilliant mind for facts but also came up with his own dictionary of unique words, he was always smiling and good for one of his famous “chuckles”…. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him!

John is survived by the following family members:
• His very spirited and loving Italian wife Cindy of almost 45 years
• Children: Loretta (Dave) Messick, Robert Chalmers
• Sister Sharon (Gary) Heath and 3 brothers: James “JD”, Charles “Chuck” (Dorothy) and William “Bill” (Peggy)
• Grandchildren: Justin Wheeler, Rochelle “Shelly” (Zach) Sherwin, Tanner Zuran
• And many nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews

Due to COVID – A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date – TBD

  1. So very sorry for your loss, it has been many years but I remember that you guys used to live across the road from my parents, Paul & Delores Baker, both deceased now. My name is Darlene Baker Souchak and I have a clock from Arizona that was given to my parents from the two of you . Many blessings out to you and your family, again I’m so very sorry for your loss.
