Obituary

Joseph Francis O’Connor Jr., passed peacefully in the afternoon of March 3rd, 2022 at the age of 77. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

Joe was born in Mount Vernon NY to Margaret and Joseph O’Connor. He was the oldest of 6 children. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie NY. After graduation, Joe met his wife Frances Elizabeth Goyette, before enlisting and serving our country in the United States Army. Joe eventually completed his Undergraduate degree at Excelsior College in New York. Joe and Fran were married on October 9th, 1965 and remained happily married for 56 years.

Joe built a career in Human Resources, working for many different companies across the country. He ultimately held the position of Vice President of HR at the pinnacle of his career. He even went into business for himself as an HR consultant for many years. His various roles took him and his family all across the country offering a wealth of experiences to those closest to him.

Throughout his life, one of Joe’s greatest passions remained basketball, and supporting his daughters’ passion for the sport. Joe participated in, and also started many summer basketball clubs, which afforded many young women the ability to follow their own passions. Joe’s coaching and guidance enriched the lives of many individuals and helped enable their future growth.

Joe leaves a legacy of a love for family, sports, giving, and the beach. Joe was an avid swimmer and would spend hours at a time swimming in the ocean when on vacation. His love for Christmas and giving freely to his family was felt by his kids, grandkids, but most notably by his wife, with whom he had a beautiful rivalry for giving the perfect gift.

Joe is survived by his Wife, Fran, his 5 siblings; Terry (Mary Ann), Bob (Maria), Robin, Kevin (Maria), and James (Diana), 5 children; Kim (Christian), Kristine (Andy), Karen (Rory), Kerri (Bill), and Kevin (Carrie), and 7 loving grandchildren.

Services for Joe are planned for April 24th, 2022 at the Ironoaks Country Club in Sun Lakes.
