Obituary

In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 27th 1940, Ben and Viola DeVerse welcomed into this world a second daughter: Sylvan Sue (Suzy) DeVerse.  This red-haired, blue-eyed ball of fire was with us for eighty-two years, until on the 4th of October 2023, she was killed in a tragic and senseless automobile accident.

Her first ten years were spent at the family home in Oklahoma. In 1951 the family pulled up roots and moved to Southwest Arizona.  It was in Yuma, AZ that Suzy met the love of her life when a handsome young Airman, named John Weber appeared. She and John married in 1959. They had two children; a daughter, Kelly, and a son, Michael.  The family spent the next decades in Yuma, El Centro and Indio, CA where John and Suzy retired. Suzy moved to the Phoenix area to be closer to family after John died in 2011.

Suzy loved the Southwest and all it offered. That love was manifested in her art and interior design. Animals, especially horses were her passion and one her favorite jobs was as a Veterinarian’s Assistant.  She also spent many years working in banking. She was a forward thinker, firm in her resolve, tireless in her stewardship.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, daughter Kelly, half brother Vernon and her sister, Cody. Her attention to their needs in their final days and hours was nothing short of extraordinary.

She is survived by her brother, Michael DeVerse and her son, Michael Weber, six grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
